Job Description

PORTFOLIO MANAGER/INVESTMENT ADVISER


We are currently seeking a Private Client Portfolio Manager for Alitis Investment Counsel’s new Victoria, BC office in Oak Bay.

As a Private Client Portfolio Manager, you will be focussed on providing a high level of financial expertise and client service to strengthen existing relationships and to help form new relationships. We are seeking a candidate who ideally brings a book of clients or is motivated to grow the private client business in the Victoria region.


WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Provide ongoing service for clients’ investment portfolios according to our client service standards
• Engage in holistic planning for clients, including risk management (insurance planning), retirement income needs and wealth planning services with the support of Alitis specialists
• Be keenly aware of clients’ changing needs and continue to suggest strategies that would improve their financial position, keeping in mind their investment objectives, risk tolerance and resources
• Ensure all client information and regulatory requirements are kept current and up to date
• Pursue referrals; prospect and develop key relationships that are vital to the continued success of the business, including educating the public about Alitis’ advanced endowment-style approach to investment management
• Keep on top of industry developments through attending seminars, continuing education, proactive personal development and joining professional networks
• Attend and contribute to Alitis Investment Committee meetings using your knowledge of financial assets and portfolio construction
• Maintain and develop a strong Alitis presence within the local professional community (accountants, lawyers and other potential centers of influence)


QUALIFICATIONS

• Licensed for securities is preferred; insurance license is an asset
Minimum CIM or CFA Level 1; other industry designations, such as the CFP, are an asset
• Industry experience requirements will vary depending on your educational background, ideally you will have a minimum of 4 years of Investment Management experience
• Solid track record of success in financial services as demonstrated with building your own book of business

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
• Ability to present convincingly to clients, prospects and professionals along with ability to connect and build a sense of trust by using an educational approach versus a “sales” approach
• Possess an innate talent and keen sense for business development
• Self-motivated; driven to exceed established goals
• Proactive and demonstrate a high degree of perseverance and positivity
• High degree of professionalism and attention to detail
• Strong time management skills, particularly the ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks
• Must be able to work well both independently and within a team setting
• Willingness to learn new skills and acquire additional education as required
• Competency in Microsoft office computer software and industry related software

This is a full-time position. Employee benefits include flex-time, employer funded medical benefits and RRSP programs. A competitive salary and bonus structure will be offered based on experience. Additional compensation arrangements will be discussed on a case by case basis if you are bringing client assets to Alitis.
